Harbor Bound Science Education

TBHA runs a free educational program for underserved Boston-area high school students called Harbor Bound.  Harbor Bound has been lauded by teachers as a unique opportunity for students to learn first-hand about the Boston Harbor cleanup, hear from positive adult role models, and learn about the preparation needed for specific career opportunities. 

For over twenty years we have taken students out to Deer Island wastewater treatment plants to tour the site, perform hands-on water quality testing and engage with professionals in the field.  As of 2012, with generous support from the Cabot Corporation Foundation and the Cedar Tree Foundation, we have added natural history and archeological trips out to the Harbor Islands.  Many students have told us that it is the first time in their lives they have had the chance to be out on the water, despite living only a few miles from the coast.
