Carson Beach
Carson Beach is a regional, lifeguarded beach with much-improved water quality and many amenities provided as part of the Department of Conservation and Recreation's "Back to the Beaches" program. The beach's new sand, walkways, benches, lighting, shade shelters, and award-winning landscaping make Carson Beach one of Boston Harbor's most popular destinations. The Edward J. McCormack Bathhouse is a year-round gathering place for local residents and visitors, and offers showers, changing rooms, public restrooms, water fountains, foot showers for beachgoers, as well as chess tables and bocce courts. The restored Mother's Rest pavilion provides an excellent harbor-view picnic spot. The beach also has a walkway that allows you to run, walk, or bike along the waterfront from Castle Island to the JFK Library. Owned and operated by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Access: Free public
parking is available in lots adjacent to the bathhouse. The beach is also
accessible via public transportation. Take the MBTA Red Line to the JFK/UMASS
stop and walk across Day Boulevard, or take MBTA buses numbers 5, 11, or
16. |
