Constitution Beach is a major
regional Boston Harbor beach, providing a diverse mix of activities and
facilities for the East Boston community and the region's residents. Renovations completed as part of the “Back to the Beaches” program by the Department of Conservation and Recreation
include a playground, an award winning
pedestrian overpass, parking, handball courts, major landscaping
additions, beach resanding (including 8,000 tons of new sand), shade
shelters, and foot showers. The bathhouse has public restrooms,
changing areas, and outdoor showers. A mobile concession stand is open
when lifeguards are on duty. Owned and operated by the Department of
Conservation and Recreation.
Access: Two hundred and
eight parking spaces are available, but fill up quickly on any sunny
summer day. The beach is also accessible by public transportation, and has
a pedestrian bridge over the T track. Take the MBTA Blue Line to the
Orient Heights Station and walk about ten minutes to reach the beach. Or,
take bus #120 from Orient Heights Station to the Bennington Street stop
where there is an entrance to the beach.
