South Boston: L and M Street Beaches

New sand provides a great setting
at M Street Beach

L and M Street Beaches are situated next to each other along Day Boulevard in South Boston. These popular local beaches provide safe swimming conditions and are located near the full-service L Street Bathhouse, which offers gyms, showers, and many other amenities for a small membership fee. Recreational facilities include exercise equipment, aerobics instruction, saunas, a snack bar, and a public boat launch. As part of the "Back to the Beaches" program, new sand, additional lighting, and seawall construction have been completed at M Street Beach. Owned and operated by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the City of Boston.

Access: There is curbside parking available along Day Boulevard and easy pedestrian access from many South Boston neighborhoods. The beach is also accessible via public transportation. Take the MBTA's City Point buses #9 and #11, to the L or M Street stops, which depart from the MBTA Red Line's Broadway Station. Then walk the short distance to the beach.
