Boston Harbor Islands : Lovells Island Beach

Lovells Island has a swimming beach, picnic areas, and 11 campsites. The island has a beautiful, natural landscape complete with dunes, salt marsh woods, rocky tide pools and stunning views of Boston Harbor and the Boston skyline. Water quality is excellent on this outer harbor beach. Special events and daily programs in the summer months bring alive the military history, folklore, geology, water quality, plants and birds of the island. Its old military parade ground is popular for spontaneous sports and games. Camping is free, reservations required (1-877-422-6762 or visit www.reserveamerica.com).

Access: Water shuttle service to Lovells Island from Georges Island is available from Boston’s Best Cruises. For schedule information, please visit www.islandalliance.org or contact a DCR ranger at 617-223-8666.
